The concept for OnServiceMD emerged from a practicing hospitalist, Dr. Steven Pestka, who found substantial redundancies, safety vulnerabilities, and inefficiencies in the daily workflow. As any practicing physician knows, these issues end up causing a great deal of frustration and wasted time each day. Dr. Pestka set out to revolutionize inpatient MD workflow in 2007. Partnering with a world-class development team and business advisors, Dr. Pestka reconsidered all processes which pertain at all to the daily workflow of a practicing hospitalist. Now, 5 years later, OnServiceMD is used daily by practicing hospitalists every day to streamline workflow through its innovative process redesign.

In 2011, OnServiceMD found a new use. The efficiencies gained in process redesign for hospitalists caught the eye of inpatient consultants, and was implemented for an oncology group’s inpatient activities in their role as consultants. OnServiceMD has been used in this fashion for efficient writing of inpatient consultant follow-up progress notes, and is used for their service handoffs as well.
